Just a digital girl living in a digital world, trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents.
Everyone, I’m elated to tell you that Tumblr will be joining Yahoo.
Before touching on how awesome this is, let me try to allay any concerns: We’re not turning purple. Our headquarters isn’t moving. Our team isn’t changing. Our roadmap isn’t changing. And our mission – to empower creators to…
I only wish that this feature retroactively worked for old photos (along with being able to retroactively add locations and edit captions). Sidenote: this video must have been done by the same team that produced the latest iPhone 5 ad.
Update: You CAN tag old photos!
I hardly ever play games on my phone. I actually just deleted Angry Birds and Words with Friends to free up room, and hadn’t used them in over a year. But I happened to catch this tweet about this game from the esteemed Lauren Leto, and the url Nerdy Octopus was quirky enough to warrant a click through. Simple, clean, pretty design. Simple, clean, fun premise. Connect the dots, la-la-la-la!
So far, I’ve only backed physical products (that were in a prototype stage) on Kickstarter: the TikTok, the Cosmonaut and Bloc Socks. These were products that I didn’t really want myself (except for the socks), but believed in the product vision and wanted to support in an effort to help them get funded.
And then today I saw this tweet from a fellow Miki (well, Micki) and LA techie, so I had to check it out. I have a bit of a closet fascination with the whole Steampunk culture in terms of style and gadgetry, so was curious what world I would be clicking into. When I found out that STEAM was actually STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering ad Math) PLUS Arts, I was sold. I strongly believe in encouraging our youth (particularly girls and minorities) to explore opportunities in STEM industries. I loved the video, loved the style, loved the vision and loved the mission. When I decide to back the campaign, it was around $3k. Hoping they hit their $100k goal in no time and excited to see this happen in LA next year!
Do fire, lasers and robots interest you? Well of course they should. Support the STEAM Carnival!
DAFT PUNK’S ‘GET LUCKY’ BREAKS SPOTIFY RECORDS
I only had to hear the 30 second teaser of this song and knew I would love it. I’ve been a huge Pharrell Fan since the late ’90s, thanks to the beats of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D. This track is infectious and just in time for Spring/Summer.
I don’t know that I’ll use this app much, but I love the design and interaction flows. If they built in music recognition (Soundtracking) and a way to view an artist’s full library (not just the trending song), I’d be sold.
Writing this blog is a commitment. It has to be something I set aside time for, plan out and throw myself into. Otherwise it’s just a flash in the pan idea that I once got excited about, and now sits idle.
I saw this headline in my daily morning email from Fast Company: How to Schedule Your Day for Peak Creative Performance. But didn’t get around to reading it until later. I love the concept. I’m a planner with spontaneous tendencies, so I like the idea of scheduling in both work, fun and fitness. I’m just getting back into a regular workout routine by going to the gym at lunch three times a week, so this fits in nicely. Time to write up my own grid and include this blog in the list of priorities!

The purpose for Kiwi Medley finally came to me. After owning the domain for several years, contemplating what to do with it, a restless night of sleep brought on by a love life dilemma triggered the spark of inspiration needed.
I consider myself to be awkwardly creative. A closet design nerd. A creative introvert, if you will. I’ve been surrounded by designers and developers for years, yet can barely draw a stick figure or write a line of code. Instagram makes all my picture look 100 times better/cooler/more artsy than the originals. But I’ve always been drawn to people and things that have a beautiful yet simple aesthetic to them. I love brands that know exactly who they are and seamlessly convey that in everything they do. I adore typography. I crush on cleanly designed apps and interfaces. The one way I’ve ever been able to express myself succinctly was through writing. So why not write about all of the above as a creative outlet for my obsession of all things digital? Introducing Kiwi Medley: a quirky curated collection of all things digital.
P.S. In true product owner fashion, this is my minimum viable product. No logo, no branding, no fancy theme for the blog. Consider this my Alpha release and prepare for iterations to follow!
This is an extended mix from Daft Punk’s latest preview as seen at Coachella and SNL. “Get Lucky” featuring Pharrell Williams on vocals and Nile Rodgers on guitar.
